| Paintball is a safe, fun way to hunt your friends. Originally, paint ball guns were not designed for the sport; they were used by forestry men (lumberjacks, woodsmen, etc) to mark specific trees from a distance, and by cattle herders to mark their cows. The founders of the sport, Bob Gurnsey and Charles Gaines, wanted to develop a game that allowed them to “recreate the adrenaline rush that came with the thrill of the huntâ€. A third friend, Gorge Butler, eventually showed them an agricultural magazine containing a paintball pistol, the Nelspot 007 marker. On June 27th, 1981, these three men and nine other players, each from various aspects of sports, hunting, and entertainment, played the first game of paintball; then called “Survivalâ€. With rules resembling that of capture the flag, except with live guns and safe ammunition, a national interest in the game started to spread.
