More news today on the pet food scare

Filed under: Long Island Living, Long Island Services — admin @ 4:58 pm

The MSNBC website published today an update on “Tips for buying safe pet food“.  The FDA has said that no rat poison was found in the pet food.  The cause of pet illnesses and deaths seems to come from melamine, a chemical used in plastics production in Asia.  If you are concerned about what pet foods may be affected check the FDA website for latest information on the pet food recall.  It appears that over 100 brands of pet food are now being recalled.

You nay want to call ahead to your local pet food store before going to find out what they advise and what safe products they have on their shelf at this point.  We have helpful business listings for Long Island pet stores and pet supplies, and pet care services.

Spring Cleaning Tips

Filed under: Long Island Living, Long Island Homes, Long Island Services — admin @ 3:59 pm

With Easter right around the corner - this coming Sunday, April 11, 2007 - we thought you’d like some pointers to resources on the web for spring cleaning.  Of course all you have to do is google “spring cleaning” and you’ll find the obvious, the subtle and the silly.  Debra4homes.com, a real estate agent in Seattle has a few sections on her website for may different types of advice- seasonal tips, how to do it pages, energy saving tips and more.  Some obvious cleaning advice from her site are “when you dust, start at the top and work down and make a checklist of chores to get organized first”.  Some of the less obvious cleaning tips  are “to removing heel marks, take pencil eraser and rub them off and to coat mildly greasy stains with aerosol shaving cream, use a hair dryer to speed dry and then vacuum.”  Well we haven’t tried these so we may want to check several sources to get some agreement on what works best.

About.com is always filled with lots of helpful practical advice.  Their section on housekeeping gives lots of specific tips for every area of your house.  Check out these links - it may be more than you want to know.  (We did not find one about how to sweep things under the carpet however.)

  • Kitchen Spring Cleaning
  • Bathroom Spring Cleaning
  • Living Areas Spring Cleaning
  • Bedroom Spring Cleaning
  • Dining Room Spring Cleaning
  • So if all that seems a bit much with a few days left before the spring holiday weekend then turn to our Long Island cleaning services listing for prompt professional cleaning services.  We have special listings for rug and carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning.

And if you need more space for Easter guests this weekend then consider some temporary storage units.  Springtime the season of new possibilities.
