Celebrate Brooklyn Celebrating 30 Year, Free Music

Brooklyn’s free summer concert series, Celebrate Brooklyn turns 30 this summer. 30 amazing years of free music in the city. Who’s better to start it off then Issac Hayes on June 12th.

The event is still held at the Prospect Park Bandshell in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York. A donation of $3 is recommended to allow there to be a 31st anniversary. A few are benefit shows and require tickets to be purchased ahead of time, with proceeds going to charities.

Central Park SummerStage 2008, Its Finally Here!

My favorite concert series just announced their 2008 summer schedule, and its looking promising.

The Central Park SummerStage is New York City’s premier cultural and musical celebration. The City Parks Foundation organizes these events in more then 700 parks in New York City, but Central Park’s has always stood out. This year we can expect to see artists from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Mali, Israel, and many more eclectic international mixtures. Of course the majority is still US based performers, including many who came from New York City themselves. (more…)

Here comes the outdoor shows again! Lets start off the season with our good friends Sun, Moon, and Stars.

The trio, “Sun, Moon and Stars”, will be performing at Happenings on Main Street at the Northport Village Park on June 6th 2008 at 7:00 PM. Sun, Moon and Stars is a trio composed of vocals, guitars and flute and they perform an original mix of NewAge-FolkJazz.

The concert is free.

All Points West Music Festival coming to New York and New Jersey

Its official, the creators of the Coachella Music Festival in California has announced a new festival to be held on Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. This new endeavor is to be called the All Points West Music Festival, and will be featuring an eclectic mix of acts including Radiohead, Jack Johnson, The Roots, CSS, Girl Talk, Underworld, King of Leon, Cat Power, and many more. The festival is scheduled to be held on August 8th, 9th, and 10th right on the state park with the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline as the backdrop. (more…)

Radiohead vs The Music Industry

In 2003 Radiohead completed their obligation with EMI Records and decided not to renew their contract. This effectively makes them an un-signed band free of any recording obligations. How can this happen and will they miss EMI?

Record labels are only a small part of a very complicated music industry. The label’s job is to provide the support necessary to help a recording artist record an album. This is a very simple and broad definition of their responsibilities.

Benefit Concert at Nag’s Head in Huntington Village, Long Island

On January 23rd from 7 to 10pm the Bob Morris Irish Band will be having a fundraiser at Nag’s Head in the heart of Huntington Village. The band is a traditional Irish group featuring 14 band members playing an assortment of traditional instruments, all in the name of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal. This is a church that was built in 1936 and was severely damaged by arson last month. The band is hoping to play a variety of shows across Long Island to raise support, awareness and funds to rebuild and get the church going again. (more…)
