Its official, the creators of the Coachella Music Festival in California has announced a new festival to be held on Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. This new endeavor is to be called the All Points West Music Festival, and will be featuring an eclectic mix of acts including Radiohead, Jack Johnson, The Roots, CSS, Girl Talk, Underworld, King of Leon, Cat Power, and many more. The festival is scheduled to be held on August 8th, 9th, and 10th right on the state park with the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline as the backdrop.

What makes this festival noteworthy? Well first its the biggest festival to capture major headliners in the Northeast area. The only other festivals in the area are the Gathering of the Vibes in Connecticut, Mountain Jam in Upstate New York, American Virgin Fest in Baltimore, and a few other small events such as Ozzfest, and the Warped Tour happening in New York City and the Meadowlands in New Jersey.

So why be excited about this new festival when there’s so many other well established events in our area and beyond such as Coachella itself, Lollapoluza, and Bonnaroo? There 3 main reasons why I am buying tickets the day they go on sale on February 29.

1. Radiohead is headlining 2 nights. Thats right, my favorite band playing almost in my backyard for 2 nights. I think it’d go if it was only them.
2. After party in Manhattan. I can only imagine what’s going to happen after the stages close at 11pm where everyone is going to. Hint hint: Manhattan never sleeps, and its a quick train ride from the park to the city.
3. Why not? Its nearby and a great getaway during the end of the summer.

Now the ticket prices are not friendly, $258 for 3 days, or $89 for single day passes. As I admitted, Radiohead is the driving force for me to go, along with checking out CSS. So in that case, I might settle for 2 day passes that they are playing on. To go Friday and Saturday costs $178 plus fees.
