Town of Babylon is located on the sothwestern border of Suffolk County next to Nassau County. The town was named forthe ancient city in Mesopotamia. The township was created in 1872 when it seperted from Huntington, the township to the north.

The three Villages in the Town of Babylon are Amityville, Babylon and Lindenhurst. The unincorporated communities (hamlets) include: Copiague, Deer Park, East Farmingdale, and Wyandanch. The southern part of the Town of Babylon includes communties on the Atlantic Shore, Fire Island and the Great South Bay.
