If you ever wondered why the there is a large statue of a bull in the heart of Smithtown (on the corner of Route 25) it is because of the legend of how the town was created. Apparently a man named Smith settled the area in 1650. Native Americans gave him all the land he could cover by riding a bull in one day. This land became Smithfield and later was renamed Smithtown.

The Town of Smithtown is located near the middle of Long Island. It is located in Suffolk County on eastern border of the Town of Huntington and the western border of the Town oF Brookhaven. The town of Smithtown includes three Villages: Head of the Harbor, Nissequogue, Village of the Branch.
