Talking is the first step toward healing. Providing Children & Families with gentle care & practical advice during times of crisis.

Hello and Welcome. I am Lynne Kulakowski, LMSW. I provide psychotherapy and counseling services to individuals and families and offer expertise as a child therapist on Long Island.

I offer a unique set of strengths with more than 10 years of experience helping the most challenging clients cope with trauma and loss, extraordinary problems and common stresses.

Specific Client Group: Children, adolescents, young adults (3-21) and families.

Problems / Clinical Issues: Depression, anxiety, suicidal / homicidal behaviors, ADD, ADHD, PTSD, Gender Identity Issues, anger management training, divorce, parental conflict, adoption / foster care issues, drug and alcohol counseling and college preparation.

12 year old Female Child with Severe Psychotic Depression

Hospitalized a 12 year old female child with severe psychotic depression and then advocated with the family so that the Huntington School District would appropriately finance this child's specialized out of state residential program. This child has since been out of her home for over a year, doing well academically and with no repeated inpatient hospitalizations.

Assisted family to Receive Special Education Services

Assisted family of an 8 year old male child to receive Special Education services from the Syosset school district after having referred him to the NYU Child Study Center for the treatment of ADHD and Depression. Will continue to collaborate and intervene on this child's behalf as he will enter a new inclusion class come this Fall 2009.

Referred a 16 Year Old for Treatment of PTSD

Referred a 16 year old female teen suffering from PTSD following the death of her twin sister in a car accident her junior year of high school, to a specialized residential school on Long Island that would help address both her mental and academic issues. Proudly this teen just graduated at the top of her class and will enter Princeton on a full academic scholarship.

Assisted a Family with Alcohol Rehab

Assisted a family with the intervention of confronting a 56 year old father about his alcohol abuse and how damaging it was to the entire family. Located a treatment program for this father to attend, which he eventually did, and then continued to provde psychological support to his wife and 6 children while he was at the rehab facility.

Adoption and Home Analysis Recommendation

Enabled a young gay couple to adopt an infant from Russia by providing home analysis recommendation and family therapy to prepare for the child's arrival. Success occurred and lil "Lena" just celebrated her third birthday Princess-style with both of her Daddys in Westhampton, NY.

Treatment Approaches: Individual, family, play & group therapy conducted. Couples counseling also available for children whom are the identified clients. Total managment provided for high risk trauma cases. Collaboration with school system in order to advocate & receive specialized services.

What to expect from working with Lynne: Genuine compassion, total dedication and pure honesty. Initial assessments will include identifying areas of both strengths and weeknesses. Treatment goals with practical dates in mind will be established and will be conducted each time for 60 - 75 minutes depending upon the issues addressed that day. Sessions will include working with the identified child / teen and feedback will be provided to the parent or legal guardian during every session. If consent is provided by the parent, therapist will contract other collateral agencies / schools / family members / Doctors in order to ensure the overall safety of the client. Available 24 / 7 for crisis management outside of regularly scheduled sessions.
